Promise Me - Harlan Coben

Promise Me

In a nutshell :

Why did Myron Bolitar tell Aimee to call him if she had a problem? Now Myron has to find her, because she dissapeared and he's the last one who saw her...

Criticism :

Myron Bolitar is back, and it's great to see him again. In this novel he's still a great guy, but he is more mature because he no longer jokes all the time. This evolution of Myron Bolitar and his friends (Win, Esperanza) is really welcomed, because it fits with the belief that "You are wiser when you are 30 years old than when you are twenty!". However, in the new story, he gets into trouble and has to prove his innocence by finding Aimee. The story is great but unfortunately quite typical of Harlan Coben. The problem with Harlan Coben is that he's always writing similar storylines : either someone's just disappeared or someone who was supposedly dead is coming back. There are always family secrets that Myron Bolitar (or another character) will discover. Harlan Coben is a very good author, but when you have already read several of his books, you will understand quickly what is going to happen, whilst you read this new book.

Eventually, Promise Me is still a great book to read, but Harlan Coben should think more about writing something rather different, because he's going to become boring if he doesn't change his stories.
